BRGM is France’s leading public body in Earth Science applications in the fields of resources, surface and subsurface risks management.
BRGM has developed a long-lasting and strong involvment in the Open Geospatial Consortium (as member of the board of Directors and founding member of the OGC France Forum). He makes a wide use of OGC standards in European, national or local projects as well as for its own needs in data dissemination in an interoperable way.
BRGM is member of the GeoSciML initiative since the early beginning, and has contributed to testbeds demonstrating the use of this model in real world applications. In particular, BRGM especially coordinates the working group dealing with borehole models specifications and contributes to the normalisation work on geological terms and concepts. BRGM is member of CGI council (Commission for the Management and Application of Geoscience Information), which develops GeoSciML
BRGM has already worked on integrating 3D City Models with geological data, in particular in project ProgressiveCity (ANR/RIAM 2003) and RAXENV (ANR/TL 2006), and performed several geological and hydro-geological studies specific to urban environments (Paris, Lyon, Bordeaux, Toulouse)

Fraunhofer IGD has done various projects in the area of geographical information systems and information visualisation in recent years. One focus point of IGD research is visualisation systems that put the human in the centre of new technologies (human-centred computing). Adaptive systems and decision-centred systems are additional aspects that play a vital role in this area.
CityServer3D Technology
The Fraunhofer IGD's CityServer3D is a client-server application able to access and manage heterogeneous and distributed data sources. Its main objective is to allow efficient access to geospatial data (especially 3D city models) saved in various types of databases and to provide this data for further processing by different client applications. Therefore it offers a wide range of OGC-based interfaces (e.g. WFS, WCS, W3DS, WMS). The CityServer3D uses a complex data model to represent geospatial information not limited to 3D city models. Furthermore it is able to process such data with different algorithms common in geographical information systems. Besides it offers a rich-client application which allows visualizing geospatial data (2D and 3D) and, thus, exploring and managing data stored in data sources accessed by the system.
The Fraunhofer Gesellschaft and BRGM are both Technical Committee Members at the OGC.
